In 1986, the top selling holiday toy was Nintendo. You can find more information about the story of Nintendo on an early episode of the Pop Culture Retrospective Podcast: The History of Nintendo And in that episode, we briefly touch on the cult classic film, the Wizard!
Finally, one of my favorite toys and animated series of the 1980s was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Created by two artists, the TMNT would go on to being one of the most successful toy lines of all time! They were the top selling holiday toy of 1988.
